Please keep your diaries free for the Bank Holiday weekend at the
end of May.

Saturday is the 29th May, Monday is a Bank Holiday (useful for 'that
morning after')

There seems to be plenty of interest in my proposal for a 'meet and
a half' over this weekend which is likely to include all or none of
the following:-

A picnic at the park
At least/most one evenings' wailin^^^Wsinging accompanied by
afpmusicians
Three-legged races with the winners receiving fantastic prizes
Wibble-throwing contests [1]
A competition to see who can get the most impressively lost [2]
A bit of geeking, maybe, perhaps
Pratchett recitation by carefully chosen victi^^volunteers
Gratuitous showing-off of Clarecraft (tm) figures - including Death
and Granny Playing Cards
Bouncy Castle (please borrow a child "to show willing")
The opportunity to meet and chat with an OFiaH [3]
Treasure hunts - one for the children, one for the adults [4]
The obligatory raffle of something I no longer require [9]
The BARBECUE of your life.

Oh - and there might be a pub involved too - or is that two ? :-)))

You may wish to join us, for all or some of the weekend. Please mail
me ( MEG@djelibeybi.free-online.co.uk ) if you want more info.

We can accommodate up to a half-dozen *close* friends for the
duration [5][7] there's also a Travel Inn "next door" (i.e. within
crawling distance) where I can get discounts [lost count] and where
we'll prolly spend some time because of the children's play area and
not because of the hostelry - not.

[1] Not *real* wibbles, you understand - only replicas.
[2] Sorry, Chris, you're banned from this one :-)
[3] It's pink/peach, I bought it for a wedding :-}
[4] Please remember to register as either an adult OR child on
arrival. It will not be possible to change your designation once
registered.
[5] Please be warned - we have children [6], so anyone who has an
allergy ...!
[6] Who are reported to be quite charming, if you ask those who've
met them
[7] Close to each other IYSWIM, because of the space <g> [8]
[8] Already got this purity point.
[9] (Sorry, feetnotes do that sometimes) I can guarantee this will
not be anything Pratchett related. Possibly an empty orange juice
carton.
[lost count] 32 per night for a family room sleeping four. Works
for me.

As you can probably tell, I'm not completely organised for this yet
but things are gathering speed and it can't *not* happen. It's an
excellent reason to try out "the meet experience" for the first time
with no commitments.

Be there or be in Tulsa within 24 hours.

Calling All Pratchett Fans

Will you be kicking your heels at Whitsun ?
Looking for something interesting to do?
Would you like to meet other Pratchett fans and share their
chocolate?

You are cordially invited to join MEG & friends for the Bristol
Whitsun Meet which will start at 2pm on Saturday 29th May 1999 and
finish when the last guest has left some days later.

There's something for everyone :- Picnic; games; intelligent
conversation; vague, rambling dialogue; music; chocolate wars;
comparing Clarecraft and Discworld collections and much more.
There's even a raffle which will be even more special as the
wonderful Elton has promised to donate one of the prizes. My thanks
go to Elton and Clarecraft for their encouragement and support.

Mail me at MEG@djelibeybi.idps.co.uk with the subject "Whitsun" for
further information or follow the link below.

An then provided the reader with an erroneously wrapped URL by
restricting my page width to 68 chars.

This was not helped by my isp's web server playing up even for the
clueful people who managed to spot the error.

My sincere apologies and another chance to try that URL. Please
persevere, it will work eventually. :-}

Righty ho!

I've updated the web pages with the details of how to get there and
what's happening. I've even made the mappes a lot smaller so they can be
loaded more quickly (thanks guys - you know who you are). The sausages
are in the freezer because Sainsbury's are doing a two-for-one offer.
All I need now are some buns.

If you haven't already, run on down to >
http://www.djelibeybi.free-online.co.uk/pratchett/meets/bristol_may.htm
in order to get any info you need. If'n you can't find what you're
looking for, mail me - MEG@djelibeybi.idps.co.uk - and I'll be happy to
oblige.

Those of you who have volunteered as helpers for the next convention
should have, by now, received an invitation from Claire Louise (Madam
Chair) to "Meet The Committee" on the Monday afternoon. Over the course
of the weekend, I'm expecting that the subject of the 2000 convention
may crop up and anyone with ideas or offers of assistance will be
gratefully received.

Now, what do I want from you?
Two things:

1) Some more ideas for fun things to do, particularly for the children -
Olivia? Esme? Grymma? Carol?
I hope I can use afp as the forum for this, there were some really good
activities at the Liverpool convention and I'd like potential attendees
to have a say in what goes on on the day.

b) Volunteers to blow whistles and/or referee the barbecue

I lied. Three things.
Many of you have already indicated that you would like to attend. I now
need a good idea of numbers because we're getting into the realms of
cramped crash-space and more-than-friendly dining arrangements. For
those of you who are definitely/seriously thinking of/would like to be
attending, can I please ask you all (even if I have some of the
information already) to mail me (MEG@djelibeybi.idps.co.uk) with the
following information:

When do you intend to arrive?
How many are there in your party?
How many children are there in your party?
Will you be eating at the Mill House on the Saturday?
Do you need crash space?
If you need crash space, how many nights will you be staying?
Can you bring your own sleeping bag and or camp bed & bedding?

It's really starting to take shape now and we're all getting very
exited. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the weather's kind to
us. I'm looking forward to seeing you all.

Hugs all 'round

Those sketchy details are now becoming much clearer as we draw closer to
the event.

The meet starts at 2pm on 29th in the Mill House Restaurant in Emersons
Green,Bristol. Actually, I'm starting the meet on the evening of the
26th when I bag myself a Rocky Frisco somewhere near Birmingham. But the
official bit starts on Saturday, runs through the whole of Sunday and
tails off on the Monday.

Saturday is meet, chat, eat, play, (possibly) drink, go home, chat,
sing, sleep.
Sunday is breakfast, shopping, prepare picnic, go to park, play, race,
paint, cook, eat, raffle, sing, go home, chat, (possibly) drink, sleep.
Monday is wake, go to sleep, wake again, do something.

As hinted above, we are honoured by a visit from Rocky (all the way from
Oklahoma) who will be stopping over for the duration and bit more. He
would like to meet lots more Terry Pratchett fans and re-meet those he
already knows.

Mark Datko has mailed me a great song-sheet which might come in handy
over the weekend. There are some wonderful filks in there which have
been penned by the talented people on afp/abp. I have put a copy on the
web-site in case you'd like to get some practice in :o)

http://www.djelibeybi.free-online.co.uk/pratchett/meets/bristol_may.htm

I have updated the pages to reflect the latest details. Using the above
link will give you information about how to get there, accommodation,
the events on different days and details about the raffle. First prize
in the raffle will be Clarecraft's Teppic (retired). Elton has also
promised the donation of a prize from Clarecraft and proceeds will go to
the Orang-utan Foundation.

If anyone requires further details, or has difficulty accessing the
information via their browser, please mail me at
MEG@djelibeybi.idps.co.uk

Finally, thank you to those people who pointed me in the direction of
Arachnophilia recently (you know who you are). I have spent many happy
hours over the last few days learning how to use it and I am now
completely cured of M$Word. I promise never to do it again. All I have
to do now is put some stuff on the "other" pages. Maybe I'll wait 'til
after Rocky leaves.

Be seeing you
