Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! On National Tour from March 1998. Dream Makers Ltd and Fleighton Productions Ltd present the first professional stage presentation of a Terry Pratchett Discworld novel. Guards! Guards! the eighth and one of the most popular books in the Discworld series begins a national tour starting at The Grand Theatre Blackpool for one week commencing Wednesday 18 March 1998. Adapted for the stage by Geoffrey Cush and staring Paul Darrow as Captain Vimes the script was work-shopped last year in London where it broke all box office records.

When the city of Ankh Morpork is threatened with destruction by a fiery dragon, Captain Vimes, a cop with a taste for whisky, decides to investigate, aided and often hindered by a 6'5" dwarf and an orang-utan who communicates via charades. Guards! Guards! where comedy fuses with fantasy and drama to produce an original and hilarious piece of unorthodox theatre. Terry Pratchett is a publishing phenomenon; his novels go straight to the best seller lists and have been translated into 26 languages. Terry is named by W H Smith as their most shoplifted writer and the Discworld novels have created their own industry of video's, audio books, maps of Discworld, computer games, t-shirts, cartoon books and figurines.

Paul Darrow is best known for his role as Avon in Blake's Seven; 1998 celebrates the 20th anniversary of the first show. To coincide with this BBC Radio 4 broadcast a new radio play of Blake's Seven in January 1998 and there wil be a convention of devotees in March. Paul's extensive theatre credits include Elvis Presley in Are you Lonesome Tonight, Alibi for Murder, Mr Fothergill's Murder and I Have Been Here Before.

The full cast is Roger Bingham, David Brett who was a member of the Flying Pickets, Nick Conway who played 'Billy' the youngest son in the popular television series Bread, Paul Darrow, Lee Johnson, Roz McCutcheon, Mark Powell, Maddy Sparham, Iain Stirland, Rob Swinton and Peter Yapp.

Geoffrey Cush is best known as the author of The Criminal Prosecution and Capital Punishment of Animals. His adaptations of novels for the stage include The Simple Past and The Three Musketeers. Guards! Guards! is directed by Peter Benedict who's credits incluse Satyricon [Phoenix Theatre London and New York] The Jew of Malta and The Hardman [Donmar, London]. Designed by Nigel Hook, whose most recent theatre work includes The Boys in The Band [Aldwych]
