August - Rollright Stones

WITCHES GO ROUND AND ROUND IN CIRCLES . . .

Terry Pratchett's Discworld? fantasy Lords and Ladies about a stone circle to be performed in stone circles.

Rollright Stones, Chipping Norton, Oxon 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 August

Will the three witches, Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlic succeed in preventing the elves taking over? This fantastic tale of elves and enchanted stone circles will be transferred from page to stage by a professional company of actors at two of the country's most attractive stone circles in a stage adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel by Irana Brown.

Lovers of Terry Pratchett or newcomers to his work will delight at this lively and energetic tale, presented by this talented company brought together for this production and directed by David Beaton. It will be presented out of doors in the centre of two stone circles. One, the Rollrights, is over 4000 years old, the other at Lime Tree Farm was build by traditional methods to celebrate the millennium. Both will add their own special magic to the performance.

It features Clare Welch as Granny Weatherwax, Jean Pinder as Nanny Ogg and Rebecca Naylor as Magrat. In a frenzy of lightning costume changes the 26 assorted elves, trolls, comic artisans, kings, wizards and dwarfs are played by just six actors (Freema Agyeman, Rohit Gokani, Michael Hucks, Sarah O'Keefe, Simon McLinden and Kate Waters). The action-packed battles between elves and mortals will be arranged by the UK's youngest fight director, Kate Waters. Design is by Philippa Broadhurst and original music by John Treherne.

Profits from this production will go to the Rollright Trust to further its work in preserving and improving access to the stones, and to Lime Tree Farm's biodiversity and natural habitat projects.

We are currently arranging coaches from central London for anyone interested or who does not have a car. This will be for the opening night and first Sat unless there is enough interest to fill a coach for the second weekend.
