Having come across the original of this (incidentally by that well know author anon) in a tome about another group of folk of like minds that got together to do something a great deal more serious ... [1], I couldn't resist the urge to adapt ...

I think that I shall never see
A newsgroup as curious as afp
This place called up 'pon Pterry's words
And peopled by the strangest nerds
Yet what they *do* they seldom say
Perhaps they'll tell on Clarecraft Day

For seven long years we have been here
Sipping our metaphorical beer
We come by netscape, or by gravity
Be it Mac, X-term , PC
Where would we go, where would we be
If ever newsfeeds dropped afp

The Wibbling types, now never shy
Lurkers neither post nor fry
Ofiah geeks, beards complete
Newbie, Oldbie, Cabal ?, Elite ?
Yet what they *mean* they seldom say
Perhaps they'll tell on Clarecraft Day

If I should die think only this of me
I liked my friends on afp
And should my folk ask "What did you do
At the end of millenium two ?"
".... Dejanews, just go and look
Or better still, read a Pratchett book"

[1] Several bags of cccbs to the first to come up with where I found the original.
