--------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Welcome to the Pratchett Quote File! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- What's all this, then? 'This' is the Pratchett Quote File (or PQF for short), currently at version 6.0, and maintained by Kimberley Verburg . The PQF is a collection of one-liners, catchphrases, general quotes, pieces of dialogue, and running gags, all culled from Terry Pratchett's novels and other writings. These quotes can simply be read for fun, or used in fortune cookie programs and .signature files (Ron Dippold's icequote program, also provided here, will help you with that). Most of the quotes should be funny in their own right, but some of them may not make much sense if you have not read the book or are not familiar with the Discworld universe. PQF v6.0 contains about 685 different quotes. Suggestions for new quotes to be added to the PQF are always welcome. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The files in this directory are: - README.FIRST What you're reading right now. - pqf-6.0 The most recent version of the PQF, in plain ASCII text. - pqf-6.0.pdf The most recent version of the PQF, formatted as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file (courtesy of John Ewing). - pqf A file that always contains a copy of the most recent edition of the PQF. - icequote-1.1.1.shar Ron Dippold's IceQuote package. This is a set of C programs that will (a) give you a random selection from any arbitrary quote files, and (b) convert the PQF to the icequote input format. This package does not include the PQF itself, by the way. - cookie.zip John Sunderland's Cookie package. This is like IceQuote, but specifically for IBM PC's. It contains both executable programs and source code. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there are any questions, problems, or comments with the FTP site, please contact Leo Breebaart at leo@lspace.org. New quote submissions and other PQF-related mail should be sent to Kimberley Verburg at pqf@lspace.org.
