Right. It's my third year at this wondrous seat of drunkenness^W
learning, and as a consequence I have a couple of little test papers to
sit on or around the end of May / beginning of June.
In order to celebrate / commiserate the results, there will be A Meet
across the days of the 18th to 19th of June.
We will meet in a pub on the evening on the 18th and Make Merry.
The next day, we shall assemble in the Marketplace at 12 noon before
meandering off for a pub lunch and (if the weather is fine) punting up
to Grantchester.
Then, pub or something till closedown / fadeout / pass out.
Details of pubs to be demolished^Winvaded^afpdopted will be forthcoming
shortly, since this is only a preliminary Announce.
See you all there -- I'm afraid I'm up to here <points> in revision, so
I won't be able to organise crashspace -- any Cantabrigians willing to
help, post to the group and sort something, perhaps?
If crashspace isn't available, details for accommodation are at
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/accoin.htm -- but it's probably not
necessary to resort to this.
More Announcements will appear in due time -- hope as many as possible
can help celebrate the brief life and death of my BA degree... :-)

Dear All and especially Sundry,
It's my third year at this wondrous seat of drunkenness^Wlearning, and
as a consequence I have a couple of little test papers to sit on or
around the end of May / beginning of June.
In order to celebrate / commiserate the results, there will be A Meet
across the days of the 18th to 19th of June. Also, our very own
AFPGiant, Charles Cooke, is celebrating his 21.5th birthday on the 21st
of June! Toasts will be drunk, and if we can find 55 people and a
forklift, we'll give him the bumps too...
We will meet in the Ancient Druids pub, Napier St. on the evening of the
18th from 7pm, and Make Merry until whenever.
The next day, we shall assemble in the Marketplace at 1pm before
meandering off for a pub lunch at the Anchor and (if the weather is
fine) punting down river around the Backs and making fools of
ourselves, lying around in the sun and generally scaring people by being
afpish. People may accidentally get wet. I shall specifically *not*
encourage the bringing of water weapons and the use of same, all right?
Then, we shall wander around various pub-type places, and food will no
doubt be had at some stage (depending on the size of the group present,
we may have to split up in search of sustenance). Back to the Ancient
Druids for 8pm or so, until closedown / fadeout / pass out.
See you all there -- I'm afraid I'm up to here <points> in revision, so
I won't be able to organise crashspace -- so far Ben Hutchings
<womble@zzumbouk.demon.co.uk> has tentatively offered up to three
places and Ben Argyle <Ben@lspace.org> likewise. Any more
Cantabridgians willing and able to help, I'd be very thankful if you
could post to the group and sort something, perhaps?
If crashspace isn't available, details for accommodation are at
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/accoin.htm -- but I hope it's not
necessary to resort to this.
More Announcements will appear in due time -- hope as many as possible
can help celebrate the brief life and death of my BA degree... :-)
In summary:
18th June:
7pm until whenever: Ancient Druids, Napier St. Probably curry
afterwards (there usually is :-)
19th June:
1pm: Meet in the marketplace
1:01pm: Wander to the first pub of the day, lunch at some point
Early afternoon-ish: Finish lunch, head to punts, head downriver and
have fun
Evening-ish: Food of some sort, possibly in separate foraging-parties
8pm onwards: Back at the Ancient Druids until meltdown
Crashspace: Email either of the Bens, and also let's hope some more
Cambridge / local types can help. I have a *little* space on my floor,
but since I'm technically liable to be fined if found out, I'd rather
not have to use it.

Friday 18th June:
7pm until whenever: Ancient Druids, Napier St. Probably curry
afterwards (there usually is (-: )
Saturday 19th June:
1pm: Meet in the marketplace and wander to the first pub of the day,
which will be the EAGLE, for a pub lunch.
2:30pm Meet up at SCUDAMORE'S PUNTS (By Queen's College, next to the
Mill pub). Hire punts, go downriver to the Backs and have fun.
Officially No Water Weapons (unless you *really* want to -- and make
sure the target doesn't mind)
Note: Emmanuel College has a deal with Scudamore's for cheap-rate
punts, so it'll be best if *I* hire them, and everyone gives my a couple
of quid to cover the cost -- we can sort that out there. But if
anyone's not there at 2:30, they'll have to hire their own, which will
be a higher deposit, and a higher hourly rate. It's still not
*expensive* by any stretch of the imagination, though.
But let's all stick together as a group, and assemble there at the given
time.
Evening-ish: Food of some sort, possibly in separate foraging-parties
8pm onwards: Back at the Ancient Druids until meltdown
There is an Official Ascii Mappe giving directions to the Ancient
Druids...

In case the above doesn't make sense to anyone, then the following Map
and Pub Guide may help...
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/mapblack.htm
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/dlg10/pubs/
The Druids is right next to the Grafton Centre, the market place is by
Market St, and the Eagle is near the market place.
As regards crash space -- there *is* room for everyone who's asked me so
far, as you know since I've been filling your email boxes with tons of
crud. Anyone else may well have to find their own... the following
document has details of *all* B&B places and hotels in Cambs and the
surrounding area.
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/accomm.pdf
It's shaping up to be a nice big meet *grin* -- any Southerners
desperate to meet the Northerners might do well to turn up... we're
expecting a Mad Dragon, a Supermouse *and* and an AFPGiant. And you've
even got the chance to meet that rarest of beasties, a Clueful Merkin...
Of course, since it's cookie's birthday-party, it is our bounden duty to
buy him drinks until he falls over. Think of it as a challenge *grin*
One last thing -- it is not *obligatory* to pinch the host. Only do so
if you *really* want to.
Peter
