Subject: [I] July 2001 : some wibblle and a couple o' filks

Well another year has past and this ancient old fart 'celebrates' another birthday tomorrow.[1]

Conicidentally *again* some acquaintances of mine will be gathering in a field in Suffolk at the end of the week and I wish them a really really great time.

So what of afp this year : woooah, it's not the group it used to be.

At the moment it seems to be a cross between Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan ( and a few weeks ago, Playboy seemed to sadly attempt to get into the equation *sigh*)

Strange, I thought I could always rely on the place to cheer me up and for light entertainment, but now it seems to reflect, perahps not surprisngly the crazy and increasingly depressing 'real' world.

I'll get my zimmer frame .....

Oh, with luck, this year I shall get to ccde, sometime over the weekend.

Franklly, being in a field and in close proximity to large numbers of strangers, scares the willies out of this old reclusive artiodactyl.

But I shall cope, I expect ,,,,,,

Meanwhile

two filks for the price of one (cuttin me own throat I am) .... both based on Lennon and McCartney numbers

A Day in the Life

I read the group today, oh boy
About some lucky folk who made the meet
And though they all seemed rather glad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph

He poured his mind out in a thread
He didn't notice what the folks had said
A crowd of old farts stood and flamed
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the group next door

I saw a film today, oh boy
An ugly ogre had just won the girl
A crowd of newbies turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the group
I'd love to take you too

Woke up, fell out of bed
Got the tent out from the shed
Found my way downstairs and drank some tea
And looking up I notice I was late

Found my sweets and grabbed my mat
Made the train in seconds flat
Found my way down south to the camp
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
Ah Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

I read the group today, oh boy
One thousand fans in Woolpit, Anglia
And though some fans were rather shy
They had to count them all
Now they know how many fans it takes to fill the Hinckley Hall
I'd love to meet you too

Blackbird

Shy fan ircing in the dead of night
Leave these geekish things and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Shy fan ircing in the dead of night
Wash those bleary eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Shy fan, fly
Shy fan, fly
Into the sun of a Woolpit site

Shy fan, fly
Shy fan, fly
Into the sun of a Woolpit site

[1] I worked out that in one base, I'll be 40 tomorrow and in another base, 62. Somehow the latter seems more appropriate
