Hi there,
and sorry to all those who missed CCDE. It was much too short, though.

Before dog posts his brilliant filks from the event, here's a little one I wrote up at the top barn, just before the lights went off. Blame doc for starting to play Simon & Garfunkel songs on his guitar. Thanks go to Sorcha, Noora and Rolf for inspiration and part of the words. Now, TTTO The Boxer, here's

The Camper

I am just a poor geek
And my story's often told
I have squandered my old laptop
For a pocket full of lspace org certificates
All lies and jests
Still a geeks buys what he wants to buy
And disregards the rest (hmmmmm....)

When I left my shell and my root account
I was no more than a geek
In the company of afpers
In the quiet of a landfill campsite drinking beer
Laying low, seeking out the quieter corners
Where the el33t cabal go
Looking for the places only they would know
Lie la lie ...

Bringing only supersoakers
I come looking for a fight
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the vendors in the bottom barn
I do declare, there were times when I was lonesome
And I took some comfort there
Lie la lie ...

Now I'm packing both my tent and clothes
And wishing I could stay
Going home
Where the work and stressy man'gers will be bleeding me
Bleeding me, going home

In the clearing stands a camper
And an admin by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry gun that layed him down
Or soaked him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the camper still remains
Lie la lie ...

Patrick
